New Manzini Mayor Promises to Listen to Citizens, Improve Service Delivery

“I do believe that the City of Manzini is smiling today because honourable Councillors have elected a Mayor that will listen to the people of Manzini. They have also elected a Mayor that is well able to articulate the vision of the city and the needs of its citizens. They have elected a Mayor who is a problem solver and who is intent on solving challenges that face the city.

I thank the honourable Councillors for giving me the opportunity to lead the city. My objective when I entered the election for the mayoral seat was to bring meaningful change in the city that positively enhances service delivery; as articulated in the Speech from the Throne as well as other submissions that are entirely connected to the lives of city citizens. All that the city’s citizens ask for is quality service delivery; and that is what we as the Municipality stand for. As Councillors we do understand the state of our city in many areas including infrastructure issues, social issues, economic impacts that we need to have addressed in order for us to be a vibrant city with a good quality of life.

We also do understand that we are the commercial centre of the Kingdom of Eswatini. We are also a cultural city as well. All of these will attract good investors. I implore honourable Councillors that we remain united and that we work together with the Executive Management through the delegation of powers that have been conducted here today.

Let us strive to have a robust and effective service delivery model and that we become a city of choice for many people. We would like to continue engaging with other stakeholders. We further thank the national Government for always supporting us towards effective service delivery. I thank you all for giving me this opportunity to serve. Together we will win and together we shall accomplish a great task. I thank you”, His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Goodwill Dlamini’s speech subsequent to being elected as the new Mayor of the City of Manzini last week Thursday.

…MANZINI MUNICIPALITY CELEBRATES WEEKEND OF VIBRANCY, SOCIAL COHESION THROUGH SPORT

The Municipal Council of Manzini is thrilled to share her excitement about the vibrant and socially cohesive weekend that the city experienced over the past weekend. The city was abuzz with social activities – thanks to two remarkable events that brought city citizens together in the spirit of sportsmanship and unity. The Impisi Bikers Rally roared into the city; drawing hundreds of enthusiastic bikers not only from the Kingdom of Eswatini but also from across the Southern African Development Community.

The sleek machines created a spectacular atmosphere in the streets of Manzini city; drawing the attention from many onlookers. Not only that, but the bikers, courtesy of the Manzini-based Hyena Motorcycle Club, also lifted the spirits of tens of underprivileged children by visiting the Old Zakhele Social Centre (commonly referred to as a soup kitchen) and donating groceries.

The weekend also saw the Voice of the Church half marathon taking place in the vibrant city early Saturday morning, attracting approximately 1000 participants from all corners of the Kingdom of Eswatini. This event not only showcased the determination of citizens to keeping healthy and fit but also embodied the spirit of unity and community that defines us as a city.

As a Municipality we wholeheartedly support and endorse such activities within our city. Events like these are not merely about competition or entertainment but they serve as the much desired platforms for fostering social cohesion, promoting healthy lifestyles and nurturing bonds amongst city citizens. Moreover, they play a crucial role in showcasing the scenic beauty of our city, thereby bolstering tourism and economic growth. The Municipality extends gratitude to all participants, organisers, volunteers, and sponsors who contributed to the success of these events.

The Municipality encourages other organisations and stakeholders to join hands with the Municipality in organising and supporting similar social activities in the future. May more and more citizens participate in such events in future. The following photos were taken during both events…
